PERKESO Introduces 24-Hour Protection Scheme (LINDUNG 24 JAM)

PERKESO has introduced a new scheme known as LINDUNG 24 JAM, following amendments to the Employees’ Social Security Act 1969 (Act 4). This scheme expands accident protection for employees beyond the traditional scope of work-related incidents by extending coverage to non-work-related accidents on a 24-hour basis. What is changing:

Previously, PERKESO coverage was primarily limited to accidents:

  • occurring in the course of employment; or

  • during commuting

Accidents outside working hours were generally not covered.

With the introduction of this scheme, the approach has changed. Employees are now protected throughout their employment period, including for accidents that are not related to work.

What this means in practice:

Under LINDUNG 24 JAM:

  • Coverage extends to non-employment injuries, being accidents that do not arise out of and in the course of employment

  • Protection applies 24 hours a day, provided the employee remains covered under PERKESO

  • PERKESO provides financial assistance for medical treatment costs arising from such accidents

In practical terms, employees may now be eligible for support even if an accident occurs during personal time.


Contribution under the scheme:

The extended coverage under LINDUNG 24 JAM is funded through contributions fully borne by employees.

The contribution rates will be implemented in phases as follows:

  • 0.75% for the first two years (Phase 1)

  • 1.0% for the next three years (Phase 2)

  • 1.25% from the sixth year onwards (Phase 3)



Implementation timeline:

The LINDUNG 24 JAM scheme is expected to be enforced starting June 2026.

What employers should take note:

LINDUNG 24 JAM strengthens employee protection by closing gaps in coverage for accidents that occur outside working hours.

While the contribution is borne by employees, employers should be mindful of the potential impact on payroll administration and employee communication.
